Cosmic Painting
Monday, November 13th, 2006A beautiful new photo of the Hubble space telescope looking like a modern painting shows the Orion nebula in an explosion of infrared, ultraviolet and visible-light colors. It was “painted” by hundreds of baby stars on a canvas of gas and dust, with intense ultraviolet light and strong stellar winds as brushes.

Twellmann, who is creating beautiful artworks in nature – circles, spheres, spirals… He is working mainly with wood and ice. You might like to have a look at his website:
The Pulsating Sun
Friday, November 3rd, 2006Yesterday I came across the NASA-website of SOHO, the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, which is now observing the sun since 11 years. There you find a page with near realtime images of the state of the sun.
And on the site N3KL you find a solar activity monitor showing the state of the ray eruptions from the sun, as it is at the moment:

It is inspiring to see how our sun is a living, pulsating being, giving us light and life since billions of years.

Slowfood: Counteracting Fast Food and Fast Life
Sunday, October 22nd, 2006Some days ago I came across the website of Slowfood.com, a world-wide movement “counteracting fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.”
Under the title “Terra Madre” they are organising a world meeting on food communities from 26-30 october in Turin, Italy. 1600 food communities from 5 continents and 150 countries, 5000 farmers, breeders, fishermen and traditional food producers, 1000 cooks and 200 universities will meet to share experiences and discuss the development of a new concept of agriculture and good, clean and fair food.

An Atlas of our Changing Environment
Wednesday, October 18th, 2006The UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme) has published together with Google Maps an “Atlas of our Changing Environment“. It is very dramatic to see from satellite photos the tremendous changes the earth has undergone during the last 20, 30 years. The destruction of nature through urbanisation often passes unnoticed, but when you compare pictures over a longer period, you can learly see the impact of civilisation on changing the face of our earth. You might also see the photos from this site in a selection on Heise.de.
Launching the Site Paracelsus Health and Healing, Redone
Friday, October 6th, 2006Yesterday early morning when I just stood up around 4.40 am, my youngest son (14) stood radiating in the hall and told me he had just finished programming the four language version of the website Paracelsus – Health and Healing. He had been working on it the last weeks, and since we are leaving today for some days holidays, he wanted to get it finished – and it was, after this night’s sprint. It was the first bigger project for my son, who had acquired quite a lot of web-skills over the last two years. Last night we did some final “polishing”, and now it is ready for launch. (You might read also the blogpost on Paracelsus’ Birthplace.)
It has been a long story getting the site ready, and several friends had helped with it. The Paracelsus magazine for which the site has been made gives interesting insights about new an old knowledge about medicine and healing art in the east and west. Through the Gorge
Tuesday, August 22nd, 2006Last sunday we had been in the Bernese alps at the Aare Gorge, where the river has cut a deep gorge into the rocks for about 1600 meters. The waters coming from the high mountains of the Grimsel massif are powerfully pressing through the narrow passage, while high rocks are covering the crevice.
It reminds of times in life, where you are moving like through a gorge, with high rocks on either side and just a small way through. Situations are pressing with a high energy and it is most important to be alert so as not to get drowned by the events. During these times there is danger of losing oneself in the turbulences. Therefore it is good to train oneself to keep the inner link with the soul.
“Dropping Knowledge” – Ask Yourself and Others
Monday, August 21st, 2006“Dropping Knowledge” is a fascinating initiative which will officially start on September 9th, 2006, with a meeting of 112 of the world’s greatest minds at the world’s largest table in Berlin, Germany, as guests of “dropping knowledge”. On September 10th they will launch a freely accessible Copyleft knowledge portal and dialog forum with audio-visual content. There is a catalogue of 23 000 interconnected problem classes, and the public can ask questions and give answers, exchange viewpoints and ideas. All publications on the site are “copyleft”, i.e. free to use by the public, and everyone giving knowledge shares it with all.
They have already put many interesting questions on the site, well illustrated, where you can drop your questions or search answers: “Asking questions is fundamental to the practice of dropping knowledge. There is no better way to initiate a dialog than with a question, no better way to challenge conventional thining, discover new viewpoints and stimulate fresh ideas.” – A very inspiring initiative!
