The Two Wolves
I just got the following story from a Canadian friend:
One evening, an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, “My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside all of us. One wolf is EVIL… It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority and ego. The other is GOOD…it is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.”
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked the grandfather: “Which wolf wins?” and the old Cherokee answered: “The one you feed.”

Here are some more words of wisdom:
“For a beginning bodhisattva, the most important [thing] is the
motivation. Of course there will be frustration, because your head
says something and your heart says something else. But this conflict
is good, it’s a sign that you’re practising. When there is no
conflict between your head and your heart, either you’re enlightened,
or you’re an idiot. You’re not using your head.”
