English, Communication and Interchange

Monday, May 15th, 2006

Yesterday morning we had our little monthly English study circle after morning meditation. We are reading a booklet by Dr. Krishnamacharya and speak about it in English. It is an interesting text and the group members thus gain a better understanding of the language.
Later I had a correspondence with the Russian translator of books of the same author, and the correspondence again was of course English. The author’s mother tongue is Telugu, but he decided to write his works in English. Likewise I decided to do this weblog in English, though it is not my mother tongue. I often have correspondence with people of the Spanish speaking world, and since I don’t speak Spanish, we do it often in English. Here in Switzerland there are intense discussions going on about an earlier introduction of English into the school system, besides the other main national language, French or German. The last hundred years English has become the language of communication between many people in the world.
Dr. Krishnamacharya said that English was chosen by Spiritual Hierarchy as the language of the wisdom teachings, and no longer Sanskrit, to give access to the people. There was a deep inner meaning behind the outwardly aggressive colonialisation policy of the British Empire, laying the ground for this evolution. I don’t see it as a cultural colonisalisation through one language, but as a quality of time by which mankind is getting into a closer relation with each other. There are endeavours to create special top level domain language encodings on the web for non-Latin signs, like Arab, Japanese or Chinese. National languages, dialects and encodings will remain, but the need for a common means of communication is getting more and more a necessity of an interchanging world. In the subtle planes, before a word expresses in language, there is the first impulse sprouting forth, concretising as an idea and then clothing into a thought. In these three stages language as we know in the expressed form does not exist, though differenciation slowly comes in. It is only with the outer manifestation of the spoken word that there is this incredible “Babylon” of languages and cultural encodings gets predominent. Having a means of maintaining a unity of a language within this world of multifold differenciation is an invaluable means for the growing inter-connectedness of our world, until man again ascends to a non-verbal communication on the subtler planes of silence.

Akiane – A Child Prodigy Artist

Sunday, May 14th, 2006

A friend from California sent me a link to the website about Akiane, a 12 year old child prodigy from Idaho, USA. She is a painter and a poet, having started at the age of 4 and having reached by now an astonishing quality of ripeness. The mass media have discovered her and even a book about her has been published.

What seems to me to be even more interesting is the deep spirituality expressing through her. Having been born by an atheist mother and a “worldly-minded” father, she had at 4, a life-changing spiritual transformation, converting the whole family to Christianity. She has been teaching herself drawing and painting and is learning mostly from her own keen observation and study. The inspiration for her art and literature comes from her visions, dreams, observations of people, nature and God. Her favorite topics are people and spiritual subjects. The quotes from her given on the website are very interesting and are an expression of eternal wisdom:
“I teach and they run away. I listen and they come. My strength is my silence.”
“I have been blessed by God. And if I’m blessed, there is one reason and one reason only, and that is to help others.”
“The meaning of the shared-self is the meaning of wisdom and love.”

Though on the site they speak of “a Christian artist”, the creative expression of the soul is something universal and not limited to one or any religion. The expressions of eternal wisdom come from the undercurrent of existence, expressing through different forms and at different times. A soul like that of Akiane is not just “dropping from heaven”, but has a long story of experiences, on which she is – unconsciously – tapping. What seems to us like an early blooming flower is an expression of a long time of work and ripening over a series of lives. It is like the electricity, which is not mysteriously being created at the wall outlet, but there is a long generation process behind.

Pulsating Mother Earth

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

Yesterday’s “Astronomy Picture of the Day” of the NASA showed a new rock slab that is growing at more than one meter a day on the Mt. St. Helens volcano in Washington, USA and now extends about 100 meters out from one of the volcano’s craters. A fascinating sight of a birth from the womb of Mother Earth. Earth is quite lively.
An American friend of mine sent me yesterday a photo from a visit in Yosemite National Park, showing a bubbling geysir in function.
Yesterday’s headlines in the news here showed pictures of the volcano Merapi in Indonesia, where the people and the reporters are waiting for its eruption. There are a lot of websites just dedicated to the eruption of volcanos.
Some days ago the news said that a big part of southern Italy is rising and falling in a rhythm of about 1-2 cm a year….
For most of us these phenomena of earth’s pulsation are hardly going below the sensational kick. It is below the consciousness line. Earth seems to be stable, reliable, and its unshaken existence is take for granted. Fact that it is running with high speed through the cosmosbut this is not perceived at all. Also the reports or legends about the rise and fall of islands, even continents, don’t touch us unless something like a Tsunami happens.
However, with many people the awareness that our Mother, the Earth, is a living being, with a life cycle and an evolution is growing. It demands another awareness: Though of another level Earth is a conscious being, a unique individuality, giving us the basis for our journey of lives and of experiencing. With this awareness a feeling of gratitude and thoughtfulness arises, which expresses in an ecological sensitive attitude. The materialistic mind sees in our Mother just matter, a heap of stones, and in man an intelligent device of nature made for no higher purpose or or maybe business making.
But the awareness of the greater life into which we are integrated is slowly rising.

White Lotus Day

Tuesday, May 9th, 2006

Yesterday was the White Lotus Day, the day for the commemoration of the passing-over of Helena P. Blavatsky (H.P.B.1831 – 1891). Since many years I have been fascinated by this extraordinary women so much disputed until today. In 1996 I wrote a little report about her and published it last year: “H.P.B. – Trailblazer for the Aquarian Age” (Engl./Ger./Span./Fre., you can download it as a pdf). I have read several times her major work the Secret Doctrine, and also other writings, and done 2/3 of the German translation of her fascinating and volumenous travel reports “From the Caves and Jungles of Hindoustan“. The biography of Sylvia Cranston about “H. P. B.: The Extraordinary Life and Influence of Helena Blavatsky” gives a very good insight.
Through her work, H.P. B. caused violent reactions, which ranged from fervent admiration to libel and slander. Her most resolute enemies were from circles of the church as well as of spiritualists, who both felt questioned to their very foundations by the teachings of Blavatsky. The goal of Blavatsky was nothing less than to deliver the death blow to the prevailing scientific materialism and religious dogmatism by pointing to the spiritual truths of the immortal wisdom teachings and by making them available to a larger public.
I don’t know of any cinema film made about her life, I think it would be a most thrilling subject, not only because of her adventurous life, but also because she is a living example of the spiritual awakening of humanity, which today has greatly increased and of which she was a vanguard.

Space Photos: A Modern Proof of an old Epic?

Wednesday, May 3rd, 2006

Yesterday a friend from Argentina sent me a link to a yahoo posting showing satellite photos of a partly submerged land-bridge between India and Sri Lanka. A modern proof of an old story?
The great epic Ramayana tells a story the time of which the wisdom teaching locate at the transition time between the Atlantean and the post-Atlantean race, i.e. nearly a million years ago, though modern writers give it a much shorter past or totally doubt the historic autheticity.
A major sequence of the epic tells the story of building a bridge over the ocean between India and Lanka by a group of Vanaras and other mythological beings. From the wisdom teachings I know that the mythological ape-shaped figures of the Vanaras are forms of high beings who, not conditioned by forms, decided to live in these seemingly animal bodies. There are many details in the Ramayana which a so-called scientific thinking would never except as authentic. But maybe there are more research results ahead like those of the satellite photos proving the historic truth of seeming mythologies.
For the symboligy of bridges see also my posting on Building Brigdes.

The noble and straightforward main character of the epic, Sri Rama, is a great example of a man following the path of moral law through all the vicissitudes of life. It has deeply impregnated Eastern thought – but who of our Westerners has ever gone into it? About three weeks ago I finished reading a detailed renarration of the epic, which was fascinating to me, and I have also read with my children a modern Indian comic strips retelling the story. Though they are not much interested in stories, they were enthousiastic about the “action story”, which can easily keep up with modern superman-stories.

Spring Beauty

Monday, April 24th, 2006

During the one week we had been away, the scenery has greatly changed: Intense colour spots of white, yellow, green and pink are seen in the gardens and along the roads. The leaves are back to the trees and are shining in a light green. The sky yesterday was giving a radiant azure background. We are in the month of Taurus, ruled by Venus. Nature is expressing in all her beauty. We sense beauty through the forms of the flowers, the freshness of the green, the warmer winds on the skin.
The meditative experience shows, that beauty is experienced more in the subtler realms of consciousness, in an inner equilibrium. When we are drowsy or busily engaged in some work, the outside beauty doesn’t seem to exist. I have to be receptive. Beauty reflects in the inside, and can be contemplated there even without the outer forms. The inspiration of beauty gives a strength to overcome even obstacles. So the refreshing energies of spring bring us the revitalizing energies for the annual cycle ahead.

Aries – Spring

Monday, April 3rd, 2006

Yesterday my wife and I had a walk on a nearby mountain. It was cold and rainy, nevertheless along the ways everywhere there were signs of flowers awakening after this long winter. An enormous energy is felt, still hiding behinds buds and rotten leaves of the old year.
In Aries there is always a fresh energy to be felt, especially in the time of the ascending moon till full moon – a good time to sow seeds and start new initiatives (like this new blog ;- ))
