11 August: 100th Anniversary of Master EK, 12 August: Anniversary of H.P. Blavatsky
It is good to remember the birthdays of great souls – this inspires us and gives us strength and orientation in the times of crises.
And the birthdays of this blogpost remind me of the profound impact in my life – unfolding and growing very slowly over 4-5 decades since I first heard of them. It took me a long time to sense a bit of the greatness of these messengers of Spiritual Hierarchy. It might take you 5-7 minutes to read the text – and how long to sense their impact?
11th and 12th of August, we celebrate the birthdays of Master EK and Madame Blavatsky.
This year, it is the 100th Anniversary of Master EK as per Indian counting and the 99th as per Western counting.
Master EK was born on 11 August 1926 during the evening hours at about 5:30 pm. Madame Blavatsky was born 95 years earlier, on 12 August 1831, in the night hours about 2:00 am. According to ancient tradition the day starts at sunrise , and we therefore, commemorate their birthdays together.
Both of them keep on enlightening humanity through their teachings and their fiery aspiration.
Below is first an extract of Master KPK speaking at the May Call celebration 2011 about Master EK, telling some profound wisdom anecdotes. And afterwards some extracts from Master KPK’s talk at Master EK’s and Madam HPB’s birthday celebrations 2015.
Master KPK concluded the talk with the following words which might guide our relating to these birthday celebrations:
“So by reading or listening to such incidents, we gain the presence of the Masters and Madam HPB. There is a lot that one can know about her. Reading the books she wrote is very difficult but knowing about her is easier. Let us go into sleep today by remaining in the presence of Master EK and Madam HPB. Entering into Divinity should be our aim and we should try to strive towards it relentlessly. May we all move in that direction.”
Teaching through stories: Master KPK speaking about Master EK at the May Call celebration 2011
At one time Master EK wanted to write a book on Tantra. There is an encyclopaedia of Tantra with thousands of slokas. He taught it to students, they lost interest. He stopped teaching them.
When he taught he also prepared the notes for the whole text. After 15, 20 years someone asked him, “Why did you not complete?” – “It was only demanded to that extend, and therefore it only came to that extend.” People asked, “Would it not be nice to add the 960 and make a book?” – “Whatever is taught is ignored; still to me it is nice. I am not worried. Those who receive forget, I am not worried.”
That is how neutrality teaches us detachment. You do with full intent every little act you do. Either fruition or non-fruition, you leave it to Brahman, it is His will. “Father, thy will be done.”
When students ask for wisdom, keep it as the Will of the Divine. When students disappeared, he took it as the Will of the Divine. Students are generally too enthusiastic. They drop away half of the way.
Once I saw him teaching to 3 or 4 old ladies who did not understand anything. I saw him teaching to them like to a crowd. I asked him, “Master why do you do it?”
He said, “Young men asked me to teach this, they left. Now, there are left these three old ladies, but for me it is the will of the divine.”
All his interactions are related to the divine, not to him. How beautiful it is: “Even if there is just one, I will teach. If the one is not there, the divine says, No thank you.”
To be available is the program of the yogi. It is the will of the divine that motivates him. The second principle is the essence of the whole wisdom.
Why am I saying it? We don’t have to create consequences when they come to us. We have to learn. We learn tolerance, patience, poise, and we remain equally poised.
Once he went to the seaside in Visakhapatnam. We were engaged in some conversation. On the seaside there were some people selling food. Normally we don’t eat, but one vendor came up to us and said, “Why don’t you buy some of these eatables?” I asked the Master, “Can we buy?” He said, “Yes we do. Not that we need food, but he needs money.”
So he bought something. As we were sitting and eating, a dog came; he was looking at us.
The Master said, “Let us feed the dog, the dog asks us.”
The divine used the yogi to feed the dog who needed food.
Extracts from Master KPK’s talk at the Master EK’s and Madam HPB’s Birthday Celebrations 2015
If we look at the writings of Master EK, it seems amazing because he never planned to write a book on his own. He just wrote what he received from higher circles. Sometimes he used to look at a wall and dictate. When I asked Master, what was there, he replied “There are two ways of impressional writings. One is, I see a script before me and I just read it out and a copy is made. The other is, a scene may appear and I describe it.”
When the wisdom used to come is unknown. It used to even come suddenly and he used to find a person to take the dictation. He used to tell, “It is not Krishnamacharya writing. If Krishnamacharya is writing, he would have written many books by now. I am just a medium to what I receive from higher circles. I stopped writing on my own from the time I came in touch with the Grand Masters.” Such books remain for centuries together with no expiry.
They were all impressional teachings. It is possible because they remain in alignment with the Divine at all times. Madam HPB and Madam Bailey too wrote and taught in a similar manner. It comes fresh then and there. The higher prevails over the lower and the teaching happens.
When Master EK wrote a book for the first time, he asked for an opinion from some eminent people in the society. Later, Master EK wrote in his book a word from his Master “This is the first and last warning. Never ask for an opinion on what you write. These are not written by you. They came through you.” Master EK wrote on a wide range of topics of wisdom in both Telugu and English.
There are more than 3000 groups which follow the teachings of Madam HPB in the world at present. In future, her greatness will be known better and her work will come more into light. She is the gateway for the wisdom required for the new age. Due to Master EK, we came to know of her and many other Grand Masters. We have the pictures of Lord Maitreya, Master Maruvu (Master Morya) and Master Devapi (Master Koot Hoomi) and they were introduced to us by Master EK. He introduced them to us on his birthday in 1971 for the first time and showed us their pictures. He gave details about them and said that WTT was established to take part in their work to some extent. From 1972 Gurupujas, their pictures were being placed on the altar.
So by reading or listening to such incidents, we gain the presence of the Masters and Madam HPB. There is a lot that one can know about her. Reading the books she wrote is very difficult but knowing about her is easier. Let us go into sleep today by remaining in the presence of Master EK and Madam HPB. Entering into Divinity should be our aim and we should try to strive towards it relentlessly. May we all move in that direction.
